Every home is different as well as life styles, and individual needs may be different from anyone else. It is very important that you remember and consider all these things when you start the shopping process. If you are considering replacing your old system with air conditioner or furnace or removing your evaporative cooler and adding an air conditioner for the first time you need to consider the following Things to Consider
You need to talk to a professional that has the ability to inspect and evaluated your home. To which we refer to as a “survey”. The survey should consist of a through inspection of your home, its construction, duct condition, insulation and then provide you with what we refer to in the industry as a “Load Value”.
After obtaining a load value you will need a professional that will talk to you but more importantly listen to your requirements, understand your needs and desires and package all this into a proposal that will be clear and understandable and will also offer you options that will meet all your needs at as affordable price. If your consultant fails to do all these things then they are not working for you, they are working for themselves. Most every home of any age has problems, such as rooms that are to hot or to cold, uneven temperatures, high utility bills, leaky ductwork or poor insulation. Most all of these problems cannot be cured by replacing just a furnace or air conditioner. You owe it to yourself to find out what the problems are and the fixes or cures available. Air conditioners and heating systems cannot be measure by square footage – only by careful calculations using methods developed by Air Conditioning Contractors of America (Manual J). There are people in this business that use “Rules of thumb” for sizing etc. These methods were relatively accurate in the 1970’s and before, when the EPA and energy conservation was not even a consideration.
